The state fire marshal is investigating a three-alarm fire in a two-story multifamily residence in East Bridgewater, officials said. The fire started in the basement of the West Street home at 5:51 p.m. Tuesday, said Timothy Harhen, acting East Bridgewater fire chief. “The cause remains under investigation,” he said. The East Bridgewater, Whitman, Halifax, West Bridgewater, Hanson, Abington, and Brockton fire departments responded to the fire, Harhen said. The house was not a total loss, but Harhen said it will be several months before the families can move back.
