Off-duty Boston officer crashes SUV into Hyde Park building; internal affairs unit investigating
The Boston police internal affairs unit is investigating after an off-duty officer drove his Ford Explorer into a garage in Hyde Park early today.
The officer, who has not been identified, crashed his Ford Explorer into a garage at 1545 Hyde Park Ave. around 2:47 a.m.
The officer, who was in “a semi-conscious state and disoriented” when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, sustained serious injuries to his head, neck, and chest, police said.
The officer was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for treatment, police said.
The vehicle and building were also significantly damaged, police said.
The internal affairs unit is investigating “the cause and circumstances of the crash,’’ police said in a Web posting. “At this time, no charges have been filed.’’
