Wintry mix north, west of Boston expected to create slippery roads Sunday night; Rain to follow
Areas north and west of Boston will see a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain tonight that could create slippery roads, local weather officials said.
West of Interstate 95, a trace of snow and ice is expected to accumulate tonight. About one inch of accumulation is forecasted for northern Massachusetts, said Benjamin Sipprell, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Taunton.
Between one and three inches of snow and ice is expected in southern New Hampshire, Sipprell said. No accumulation is expected in metro Boston, where temperatures are already above freezing.
North and west of the city, temperatures range from the high 20s to low 30s.
By midnight, most precipitation is expected to turn over to rain as the storm moves north and brings warmer temperatures with it, according to Sipprell.
The warm-up will continue tomorrow with highs expected to climb into the mid-40s as another storm moves.
There may be a small break between the two weather systems tomorrow, but the second storm is expected to drop rain, which could be heavy at times, through most of Tuesday, when highs are expected to reach the mid-50s, Sipprell said.
