Sunny skies and windy weather will give way rain late Thursday night

It’s partly sunny and dry in Boston right now, but the end of the week will be wet and sloppy and then it will turn cold.

Temperatures will be in the mid-40s today with wind gusts near 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday will be similar, with a high temperature of 42.

Showers will move into the area during the overnight hours Thursday and continue through Friday morning, the weather service said. Temperatures will be near 50 and winds will gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

“We could have up to an inch and a half of rain and, along with that, we’re going to get some strong winds,” said meteorologist Charlie Foley.

There is a chance that the rain will continue through Friday night and transition to snowflakes Saturday morning, Foley said.

“There is a chance of flurries, but nothing significant,” he said. “They may be scattered about, but they’ll be very limited.”

Saturday will be cloudy with temperatures in the mid-40s.

“Arctic cold air will end the precipitation,” Foley said. “It’s going to be a very cold weekend.”

Sunday will be partly sunny and temperatures will be near 40. Nighttime temperatures will be in the low 20s in the city, the weather service said.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be partly sunny. The high temperature for both days is 37 degrees, the weather service said.
