Worcester man leads police on 25 minute chase; Cruiser goes off road
Sutton police arrested David Gray, a 26-year-old Worcester man, this morning after he allegedly led them on a 25-minute car chase along Route 146 in what police said was a stolen sport utility vehicle.
During the chase, a police cruiser from Millbury slid off the road and into the snow. No officers were injured, the Millbury Police Department said.
“We had a cruiser slide off one of the onramps,” said Donald Desorcy, Millbury’s acting police chief. “It went through about a foot of snow like a sled and probably slid off the road about 75 feet.”
Police said the SUV Gray was driving matched the description and license plate of a vehicle reported stolen from a Mendon store’s parking lot. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, Gray sped off at approximately 50 miles per hour, police said.
Gray was apprehended at 9:45 a.m. after he allegedly pulled into the parking lot of an apartment building off Route 146 and ran from the vehicle.
“There was a brief foot pursuit and he was apprehended in a wooded area behind the complex,” said Sutton Police Lieutenant David Perry.
Gray, who had four oustanding warrants for his arrest, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, driving with a suspended license, possession of heroin, possession of a Class E drug, operating negligently, stop sign violation, speeding, and marked lane violation.
