Peabody police investigate shooting on Washington Street

Peabody police are investigating a nonfatal shooting on Washington Street Thursday night.
At 8:55 p.m. police responded to reports of possible gunshots at 197 Washington St. and found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his thigh, Peabody police said in a statement. The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The police said in a statement issued this morning that the shooting did not appear to be random and that police were continuing their investigation.
