After a chilly week, warmer temperatures are ahead for next week

Flurries are possible Sunday, but a warming trend is on tap for southern New England, with temperatures approaching 50 on Tuesday and beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a chance of light snow between 5 and 9 a.m. Sunday, but “probably not enough to coat the ground” in the Boston area, said National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Nocera.

Areas in northern New England may see more snow, Nocera said.

In Boston, temperatures will fall into the upper 20s on Sunday night, National Weather Service meteorologist Kim Buttrick said. Outside the city, nighttime lows are forecast in the low to middle 20s Sunday.

The start of the work week will bring highs around 35 in the city, with temperatures around 30 to the west. At night, the mercury is expected to drop to the low 20s around Boston and into the teens to the west, Buttrick said.

“Tuesday through Friday will bring a warming trend with temperatures above normal and mostly dry conditions,” Buttrick said.

Temperatures on Tuesday should be around 40 in Boston and a few degrees colder outside the city.

Wednesday and Thursday will be dry, with highs in the 40s across southern New England, Buttrick said.

Temperatures will remain steady into Friday, when there will be a chance of rain.
