Man impersonating police officer assaults woman in Wareham
Wareham police are searching for a man who impersonated a police officer and hit a woman in the face with a flashlight after pulling her over in her car.
A woman reported that a man in a dark SUV or pickup truck with a flashing blue light in the windshield signaled her to pull over to the side of Main Street in West Wareham at 9 p.m. Saturday, police said in a statement.
After the woman stopped her car, the man approached her from his darkened vehicle and asked her to step out of her car, the statement said. The man, whom she she reported to be around 40 years old with dark hair and a distinct Adam’s apple, claimed she had a broken tail light.
The woman began to suspect the man was not a police officer and started to drive away when he struck her in the face with a flashlight, causing a minor injury.
Wareham Police Lieutenant Kevin Walsh said the attack was an “isolated incident,” and police are continuing their investigation.
