Wareham police release artist’s sketch of police impersonator
Police released an artist’s sketch today of a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer and attacked a woman after pulling her over on Main Street in West Wareham.
A woman reported that at 9 p.m. Saturday a man driving a dark SUV or pickup truck with a flashing blue light in the windshield signaled her to stop as if he were a police officer, police said in a statement.
When she pulled to the side of the road, the man said one of her car’s tail lights was out and asked her to get out of the car. The woman began to suspect the man was not an officer, the statement said, and as she started to drive away he hit her in the face with a flashlight, causing minor injuries.
The woman told police the man appeared to be 40 years old with dark hair and a pronounced Adam’s apple.
Police are continuing to search for the man.
