Mild temperatures expected until Monday night

Today’s weather has been dreary, but Sunday and Monday will bring unseasonably mild temperatures before it turns very cold at the tail end of the week, according to forecast data from the National Weather Service.

This afternoon, amid “spottly drizzle,” temperatures will peak in the upper 40s around Boston and near 45 to the west, according to Kim Buttrick, a weather service meteorologist.

It should be mild tonight, with lows around Boston near 40 and lows in the mid 30s to the west, Buttrick said.

On Sunday, highs will be around 50 near Boston, about 15 degrees above normal for this time of year, Buttrick said. To the west, high temps should be near 50 degrees.

Sunday afternoon and evening will be dry—good football weather as the Patriots and the Houston Texans face off in a playoff game in Foxborough.

Sunday night will be “very mild,” Buttrick said, with temps in the upper 40s and a chance of scattered showers near Boston. To the west, temps will be in the low to mid 40s.

Monday looks to be the warmest day on tap, with highs in the mid 5os in Boston and a chance of showers, Buttrick said. To the west, highs will be in the low 50s.

A cold front will slide into the region late Monday and could be accompanied by snow showers. Monday night will see lows around 30, colder than the seasonal average, Buttrick said. To the west, lows will be in the mid 20s.

Temps will remain cold through Wednesday, Buttrick said.

Across the state Tuesday, highs will be around 40, according to the forecast. Lows that night will be around 30 near Boston and in the mid 20s to the west.

Wednesday and Thursday will see highs in the low 40s in the city and lows in the upper 20s. To the west Wednesday, highs will be in the upper 30s. That night to the west, lows will be in the mid to upper 20s.

Thursday to the west, lows will be in the upper 30s.

Thursday night, an arctic front will cover the region, bringing lows in the upper 20s around Boston and in low 20s to the west, Buttrick said.

Friday will be another brisk day, with highs in the mid 30s in Boston and in the upper 20s to the west, Buttrick said. To the west, highs should be in the low to mid 30s.
