Bundle up! Boston could see temps drop to 5 below zero -- and other parts of Mass. could go even lower
The WBZ-TV forecast
Wind chill temperatures may reach their lowest, most dangerous point of the recent cold snap tonight, but Massachusetts is due for a warmer weekend as winds die down Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Suffolk County from 7 p.m. tonight until 10 a.m. Friday, forecasting temperatures as low as 5 below zero and 10- to 15-mile-per-hour winds gusting to 35 miles per hour.
Those two factors will combine to make a wind chill temperature as low as 18 degrees below zero, forecasters said.
And the Boston area will be relatively lucky.
Temperatures are expected to be even colder as you head inland, towards Central and Western Massachusetts. The harshest cold will be in Berkshire County, where wind chills are expected to be as low as 25 below zero.
Though Friday will be windy, highs will be in the 20s, lessening the bite of the wind chill.
This weekend will see a slight warming trend and less wicked winds. Daytime highs will increase in 5-degree increments, with Monday’s highs reaching the 30s.
In Boston, the Menino administration said this morning, the Inspectional Services Department has responded to 644 calls for no heat in apartments and homes.
Under state sanitary code, temperatures in a home must be at a minium of 68 degrees during the day and 64 degrees after 11 p.m.
