Roxbury man, wanted on four warrants, helps Transit Police capture himself

MBTA Transit Police said they had help Monday arresting a Roxbury man wanted on four warrants -- help from the suspect himself.

John Monroe, 32, was apprehended at the Quincy Center Red Line station around 8:20 p.m. after he drew the attention of police. Monroe, police said, stood in the open doorway of a Red Line car, with one foot inside the car and the other on the platform, keeping the train in the station.

When police asked him to get on the train or step onto the platform and when the station attendant used an intercom to broadcast a request that he move, Monroe allegedly was immobile.

“Monroe ignored these requests and continued to stand in between the doors preventing their closure,’’ Transit Police wrote on their blog.

Police took Monroe into custody and discovered the Fisher Avenue resident had four outstanding warrants: A 2010 warrant from Cambridge District Court for operating with a suspended license; a 2011 warrant from Roxbury Municipal Court for threats to commit a crime; a 2012 warrant from Brighton Municipal Court for possession of Class A and Class B drugs; and a 2012 warrant from Boston Municipal Court for shoplifting.

“You are probably wondering why Monroe would drawn such attention to himself...... we are too,’’ Transit Police wrote on the blog. “No explanation was given.’’

Monroe is to be arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court.
