Boston schools to remain closed Monday as crews continue snow removal
Boston public school students will get another snow day Monday as crews continue to dig out from the weekend’s massive snow storm, according to Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s office.
“The mayor was concerned about sidewalks and some of the side streets being cleared,” said School Department spokesman Matthew Wilder. Menino “wanted to make sure that work was done before we had buses going down those streets and students walking” to school.
Wilder said he expects schools to be reopened on Tuesday, but cautioned, “We’re taking one day at a time.”
The Boston Centers for Youth and Families will open the Curtis Hall, Hyde Park, Paris Street, and Tobin community centers for parents who need to drop their children off, according to the City of Boston’s website.
To expedite snow removal, Menino is reaching out to private contractors and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for more resources, especially front end loaders and back hoes to remove large mounds of heavy snow.
Cambridge and Somerville schools will also remained closed on Monday. See a list of more school closings.
