Man may have been struck by falling ice in Boston; rushed to hospital in cardiac arrest
A man who may have been struck by falling ice this afternoon in Downtown Crossing was taken to a city hospital in cardiac arrest, according to a spokeswoman for Boston Emergency Medical Services.
Jennifer Mehigan said paramedics responded to Bromfield Street for a man down just after 2:30 p.m., and he was in cardiac arrest when they arrived. She said one caller said the man had been struck by an icicle, a report that she could not confirm.
The man was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, Mehigan said. His age, condition, and identity were not immediately released.
Mehigan urged the public to be vigilant as snow and ice from the weekend storm begins to melt away.
“As temperatures rise and fall, we’re going to see more icicles and more melting and icing back up, so people just need to be aware of their surroundings,” she said.
