Gabriel E. Gomez, a Republican candidate for US Senate, released a video this morning that shows him campaigning with his family and talking with voters at Mul’s Diner, a South Boston institution and a regular campaign stop for candidates.
Gomez, a private equity investor who is a former Navy SEAL, took out nominating papers and issued a video announcement of his candidacy last week. However, he has not yet held any campaign announcements or events. His spokesman said he would not speak publicly until next week, following the deadline for submitting voter signatures to get on the ballot.
Gomez is one of three Republicans aiming for the special election to succeed former US senator John F. Kerry. State Representative Daniel B. Winslow and former US attorney Michael J. Sullivan are also gathering signatures to mount campaigns.
Each candidate has until Feb. 27 to collect 10,000 certified signatures from voters to qualify for the April 30 primary.
US Representatives Edward J. Markey of Malden and Stephen F. Lynch of South Boston are vying for the Democratic nomination. Stephanie Ebbert can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow her on Twitter @stephanieebbert.
