Transit Police blame Green Line trolley crash in Brighton on Cambridge man for failing to yield to trolley

A Cambridge man is being blamed by MBTA Transit Police for causing a crash Monday night in Brighton involving his car and a Green Line trolley heading outbound towards Boston College.

The driver, 36-year-old Ridouane Amallah.was cited for failing to yield to a trolley at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Pleasant Street, according to a Transit Police report.

“There is no traffic control device at the intersection and trolleys have the right of way,’’ Transit Police wrote in the report. “There is a conspicuously posted sign that reads, ‘Yield to Trolley.’”

According to police, Amallah told them he was driving over the Green Line tracks when he was struck on the driver’s side of his car by the trolley shortly after 8 p.m. Airbags in Amallah’s vehicle deployed, but Amallah declined medical treatment, police said.

The driver of the trolley, whose name was not disclosed in the police report, reported being “shaken up’’ by the collision and was taken to Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton for evaluation.

Two passengers also complained of injuries, although only one, a person who complained of a headache, was transported by ambulance, also to St. Elizabeth’s.
