Warmish temperatures, rain and snow showers to define this week’s weather

Though still a ways off, a potential mid-week storm should largely miss the Bay State. Instead, this week will bring normal temperatures amid slight chances for rain and snow, the National Weather Service said.

This morning’s clear skies will give way to clouds as a large area of low pressure over Eastern Canada could kick showers into Boston after 4 p.m., said meteorologist Alan Dunham. Highs will reach the low 40s throughout the state today.

Temperatures that are expected to drop below freezing could turn some rain showers into snow come this evening. Boston will reach 30 degrees tonight, with a low of 27 in Brockton and 25 in Worcester.

Though clouds will persist Tuesday, things should stay mostly dry, with another day of highs in the 40s, Dunham said.

On Wednesday and Thursday, a strong storm in the mid-Atlantic appears to be too far south and east of the state to have any real impact, he said.

While there is a chance for periodic rain and snow, “we’ll miss the bulk of the precipitation,” Dunham said. The state will see mostly cloudy skies and normal highs in the low 40s.

The storm could, however, bring a chance of beach erosion for eastern-facing shores thanks to up to 30 mile per hour wind gusts along Cape Cod and the coast.

Friday appears to be the only day this week without a chance for showers, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 45 degrees in Boston.
