Police investigate suspicious death
Lowell police and the Massachusetts State Police are investigating the death of a Lowell woman who was found in her apartment Saturday morning, according to statement from Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone. Leone’s office is leading the investigation into the death of Angela Aponte, 60, which it called suspicious. The Lowell Fire and Police departments were called to the woman’s apartment at 566 Market St. for reports of smoke coming from inside. Around 10 a.m., authorities found Aponte with what they said were “obvious injuries.” She was pronounced dead at Lowell General Hospital, Leone’s office said. The state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy. Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Police at 781-897-6600 or the Lowell police at 978-674-4501.
