Authorities identify body found Thursday in Charles River
The body that State Police recovered from the Charles River Thursday has been identified as the 32-year-old South End man who was seen jumping into the river from Massachusetts Avenue bridge on Jan. 1.
Police do not believe there was foul play in the death so the man’s name will not be released, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said in a statement.
In the early morning of Jan. 1, rescue crews responded to calls about a man who had jumped from the bridge. Dive teams scoured the waters below the bridge and downstream for eight hours, but could not locate the man at the time.
The body was recovered around noon Thursday near the bridge, which connects Boston’s Back Bay and the section of Cambridge where the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is located.
