N.H. woman held without bail after allegedly driving drunk and wrong way on Route 128 in Beverly

A 27-year-old New Hampshire woman is being held without bail after being charged for the third time with operating under the influence — this time for allegedly driving drunk and in the wrong direction on Route 128 in Beverly early Sunday morning, officials said.

Trena Baron was arrested by State Police just before 4 a.m. after troopers received multiple 911 calls of a car driving the wrong way on Route 128 North between Exits 17 and 18, State Police spokesman David Procopio said. Baron had been driving from Gloucester to Nashua, N.H., where she resides.

When Trooper James Maloney of the Danvers barracks stopped the white Kia with California registration, Maloney noticed signs of intoxication, Procopio said. Baron exhibited signs of impairment during field sobriety tests, and was arrested.

Baron was arraigned Wednesday on charges that included driving the wrong way on a state highway, operating under the influence of liquor, and driving a motor vehicle with suspended registration, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office said. She entered a not-guilty plea at Salem District Court.

A dangerousness petition was also filed against Baron, which a judge allowed. Because she has been deemed dangerous, she can now be held for up to 90 days, Blodgett’s office said. She is slated to appear in court again April 16.
