Blast of cold air will hit region after storm dumps 8 inches of snow on Southeastern Mass.

A chilly, gusty weekend is in store.

After the system that dumped up to 8 inches of snow on the southeastern part of the state moseys out of the region this morning, yet another cold air mass will arrive, keeping conditions cool, dry, and windy for the weekend, National Weather Service meteorologist Benjamin Sipprell said today.

The weather event that began Thursday morning and lasted until this morning brought a sizable amount of accumulation for the Cape and southeastern communities, the weather service said. New Bedford received 8 inches of snow while neighboring Acushnet, Dartmouth, and Fairhaven each recorded 7 inches, the weather service said. In West Tisbury, 6.5 inches of snow accumulated.

This weekend, temperatures will be in the mid-40s — below the average of 49 degrees — Saturday and Sunday, he said. Winds will be in excess of 30 miles per hour, creating some frigid wind chills. Sipprell said morning wind chills will be in the teens and outside of Boston some areas could see wind chills in the single digits.

Sipprell’s advice: “Bundle up!”

Highs are expected to reach 43 in Boston Saturday and 46 Sunday, with otherwise clear skies.

Some weather models are hinting at a slight chance for snow Monday, though the low looks like it will pass too far south to create any real precipitation on the state, forecasters said. However, the event can’t be completely ruled out, as it’s still too far away to be totally certain, forecasters said.

Beyond Monday, the rest of the week looks to be much of the same, forecasters said, with colder than normal temperatures in the low to mid-40s and dry conditions continuing to next weekend.
