State Police arrested an Andover man today who had 48 kilograms of cocaine in his car, prosecutors said.
Jose Martinez, 51, will be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Monday on one count of trafficking cocaine, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a statement.
Troopers pulled Martinez over in Andover and searched his Dodge Durango, where they found the cocaine. The arrest was the culmination of a three-month investigation into Martinez, Blodgett’s statement said.
“This investigation and arrest has taken a large quantity of drugs off the street,” Blodgett said. “I commend the hard work and diligence of the detectives involved.”
Forty-eight kilograms is equivalent to about 105 pounds. Authorities did not provide an estimated value for the drugs.
