City Councilor Felix G. Arroyo plans to announce bid for mayor, according to person close to the campaign
City Councilor Felix G. Arroyo will announce he is running for mayor of Boston on Tuesday morning, according to a person close to the campaign.
Arroyo, 33, of Jamaica Plain, has served as an at-large member of the City Council since 2010. A former political director for SEIU Local 615, he is the son of Felix D. Arroyo, the first Latino member of the City Council. Arroyo has roughly $80,000 in his campaign account. He becomes the first prominent person of color to enter the race.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced last month he would not seek a sixth term, opening a flood gate of potential candidates.
