Black bear sighted in Acton over the weekend could be the same itinerant bruin spotted in Lincoln, Weston
A bear meandered across backyards and roads in Acton this weekend, but disappeared before police could find it.
The bear, first reported near Partridge Pond around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, could have been the same one spotted roaming Lincoln and Weston, said Marion Larson, a spokeswoman for the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
Both animals appeared to be black bears, which are known to travel long distances, she said.
Acton Police Chief Frank Widmayer said he could not confirm that the animal was indeed a black bear because it had disappeared before his officers arrived. But he added that black bears are not uncommon in Acton.
The bears are usually no danger to people, he said.
If anyone sees a bear, they should just “keep calm and enjoy the show,“ Larson said.odd Feathers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @ToddFeathers.
