Traffic stop leads to drug, gun arrests for two Worcester men
State Police allegedly found a stash of drugs and a loaded handgun in the car of two Worcester men, who were arrested early this morning after they failed to stop for a red light in that city, State Police said.
State Police stopped Josue Ocasio, 30, and Juan Mercado-Concepci, 23, around 2:45 a.m. after their Toyota RAV4 blew through a red light on Quinsigamond Avenue in Worcester, State Police said in a statement.
Ocasio, who was driving, did not have a valid driver’s license, State Police said.
In the process of placing the car on a tow truck, troopers allegedly saw a bottle of prescription pills with the labels torn off in the passenger-side door. A further search of the vehicle revealed a hidden compartment in the center console containing a loaded 9mm handgun and several bags of a whitish-brown powder, State Police said.
Ocasio and Mercado-Concepci will be arraigned today in Worcester District Court on multiple drug and gun charges. Ocasio is also charged with operating a vehicle without a license and failure to stop for a red light, State Police said.Todd Feathers can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
