Person killed by MBTA commuter rail train in Beverly; incident under investigation
A person was struck and killed this afternoon by an MBTA commuter rail train near where tracks cross Cabot Street in Beverly, according to the MBTA and the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Co.
An inbound train “struck a trespasser just east of the Cabot Street’’ crossing around 12:30 p.m., according to a statement from the private company, which operates the commuter rail system for the MBTA. About 150 passengers were on board the Newburyport/Rockport train, which left the station around 12:10 p.m.
Train traffic was halted to allow Transit Police and Beverly police to investigate.
