Transit police correct identity in Silver Line crash
Transit police say they misidentified a man accused of crashing into a security barrier in a South Boston Silver Line bus portal Friday. James M. Tilton, 57, claimed to be his estranged brother after he was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol, according to a Transit police statement. Police said Tilton provided “personal identifiers” of his brother, and a check with the Automated Fingerprint Identification System mistakenly verified the wrong identity. “Unfortunately the information was furnished to the media,” the Transit police statement said. Police discovered the correct identify late Friday night. Police are looking into why the automated system was incorrect.Andrew Doerfler can be reached at email@example.com.
