Kim Kardashian in Sally LaPointe, Boston’s Gemvara on Oprah’s list
Oprah wearing Gemvara earrings on her “Favorite things” episode.
Reality star Kim Kardashian received the key to the city of North Miami on Monday. Why do we care? Because she attended the ceremony in a dress designed by Marblehead native and Rhode Island School of Design grad Sally LaPointe. LaPointe became famous in the fashion world when she started designing couture for Lady Gaga. She also designed one of Carrie Underwood’s dresses for the Country Music Awards, which were held earlier this month. . . . While Kardashian showed love to LaPointe, Boston-based online jeweler Gemvara — which was cofounded by Babson grad Matt Lauzon — got love from Oprah Winfrey. The company’s Naked Cushion Triple Earrings made Winfrey’s “Oprah’s Favorite Things” list, which was revealed in a special on the OWN network on Sunday night. Winfrey also wore the earrings during the segment. . . . Speaking of lists, Boston’s Ben Affleck also made it onto a good one. He’s on Barbara Walters’s list of the year's most fascinating people. So are Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “50 Shades of Grey” writer E.L. James, and the boy band One Direction.
