Mike O’Malley’s ‘Certainty’ in theaters

The film “Certainty,” written by New Hampshire native Mike O’Malley, finally hit theaters, opening earlier this week in LA and Friday in New York. Based on O’Malley’s play “Searching for Certainty,” the movie’s an entertaining take on one couple’s “engagement encounter,” which is a requirement to get married in a Catholic church. (The film’s directed by Peter Askin and stars Giancarlo Esposito of “Breaking Bad” fame and also “Rhoda” actress Valerie Harper.) O’Malley, who plays Kurt’s dad, Burt, on “Glee,” was among friends at the movie’s LA premiere: “Glee” star Matthew Morrison made the scene, as did O’Malley’s costar in “The Mike O’Malley Show” Kate Walsh, “Mike & Molly” star Billy Gardell, “True Blood” actor Sam Trammell, Amesbury-bred “Burn Notice” star Jeffrey Donovan, and “Firefly” actor Alan Tudyk. O’Malley is a busy man these days. In addition to the film, which is available on-demand and on iTunes, and his duties on “Glee,” he’s one of the writers of “Shameless” and also just sold a pilot to CBS — with Sox chairman Tom Werner producing — about a police department in New Hampshire.
