Former Celtic Dominique Wilkins pays touching tribute to onetime teammate

As it does at the end of each year, The New York Times invited readers to submit photos and remembrances of loved ones who died during the previous 12 months. Many of the stories are sad, some are inspiring, all are affecting. One of them was about former NBA player Dan Roundfield. What struck us was the identity of the person who submitted the picture and story: former Celtic Dominique Wilkins, who played with Roundfield in Atlanta. “For those of us who knew him, we look at this image and think of Dan the selfless leader, the husband, the father and the fearless teammate and friend,” Wilkins wrote.”Dan lost his life this year at the age of 59 saving his wife of 37 years from drowning on the beaches of Aruba while on a family vacation. In his last moments, as he himself was fighting for his life, Dan fearlessly lived and died for his family, which is all he ever really wanted.”
