Hey, George Stephanopoulos, Bill Russell is not Morgan Freeman
ABC’s George Stephanopoulos either doesn’t go to the movies much or isn’t familiar with the greatest basketball players of all time. During Monday’s telecast of President Obama’s inauguration, a camera captured Celtics great Bill Russell in the crowd. Even though the 11-time NBA champ was wearing a Celtics hat, Stephanopoulos still managed to misidentify him. “That’s Morgan Freeman, I think, right there on the Capitol steps,” Stephanopoulos said, referring to the five-time Oscar nominee. “No, Bill Russell, I’m sorry.” The networks had an easier time identifying other celebs in the crowd, including John Mayer, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z . . . Governor Deval Patrick and other Massachusetts Democrats hosted a pre-inauguration party at Legal Sea Foods in D.C., and the guests included senators John Kerry and Elizabeth Warren, former congressman Bill Delahunt, and congresswoman Niki Tsongas.
