Nat Faxon shelved, Lee Eisenberg picked up

It’s been a week of ups and downs for Massachusetts native Nat Faxon. Just a day after the Oscar winner’s locally-shot movie “The Way, Way Back” opened to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, his Fox sitcom “Ben and Kate” was shelved by the network, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently the show, which costars Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson’s daughter Dakota Johnson, didn’t get as many viewers as Fox’s other Tuesday-night comedies, which include local girl Mindy Kaling’s “The Mindy Project” and Zooey Deschanel’s “New Girl.” . . . In other TV news, Deadline.com reports that ABC has ordered a pilot written by Lee Eisenberg (inset), the Needham native best known for producing “The Office” and for penning the Cameron Diaz movie “Bad Teacher.” The local guy and his writing partner, Gene Stupnitsky, will helm “Pulling,” an adaptation of a 2006 British series about three women in their 30s. No word on who will play the 30-somethings, but in the British version of the show, one of the actresses was Tanya Franks, who played Richard Burton’s wife Sybil in Lindsay Lohan’s recent Lifetime movie “Liz & Dick.”
