‘Girls’ star is honored by Chlotrudis Society

The Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film presented actor Christopher Abbott with its Breakout Award at the Brattle Theatre on Sunday night. Abbot was honored for work in indie films such as “Hello I Must Be Going” and “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” but you might also recognize him as Charlie on HBO’s “Girls.” The night’s other honoree was Gabrielle Hanna, of the Provincetown Film Festival, who picked up the Cat’s Meow award. We’re told that the ceremony also wound up honoring the legacy of The Boston Phoenix, which announced last week that it had ceased publication. Attendees and presenters spoke about the importance of the weekly paper, and Phoenix arts editor Peter Keough, who was at the event, earned a big round of applause. Other notables honored included Amy Adams (who’s in Boston shooting a movie) for her role in “The Master”; actor Ezra Miller, who costarred with Emma Watson in “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and Wes Anderson, whose Rhode Island movie “Moonrise Kingdom” won best ensemble cast, best director, and best original screenplay.
