Angie Miller gets mixed marks on ‘Idol’
“American Idol” featured two themes for the top six contestants to tackle Wednesday night and Beverly native Angie Miller got mixed marks for her pair of performances. The first half featured the songs of Burt Bacharach and Hal David and Miller sang “Anyone Who Had a Heart.” While the judges continued to praise her technical vocal ability, they felt the performance lacked passion. Randy Jackson advised her to read and really digest the lyrics in order to connect. For her second performance — on the theme of songs the contestants wish they’d written — Miller sang contemporary Christian singer Kari Jobe’s “Love Came Down” and got unanimous praise from the judges, in part because she returned to playing the piano, something they had urged her to do. Nicki Minaj said it was at the piano where Miller truly distinguished herself from the other contestants, and Mariah Carey declared “It was just perfect.” Miller will discover on Thursday if she advances to the top five.
