There’s a new reason to watch the Showtime series “House of Lies.” Local guy Ryan Gaul, who went to Stonehill College and worked at W.B. Mason before dropping everything to become an actor, has been cast in a recurring role on the show, which follows a management consulting company run by the savvy Marty Kaan (played by Don Cheadle). Gaul (inset), who’s from Maine, got his start with Improv Asulym in Boston and is now a performer with the Groundlings, the improv company that launched the careers of funny people such as Taran Killam (“Saturday Night Live”), Melissa McCarthy (“The Heat”), and Massachusetts’ own Jennifer Coolidge. Gaul’s television resume already includes “It’s Always Sunday in Philadelphia,” “Modern Family,” and “Are You There, Chelsea?,” but this new job will be a regular gig. On season 3 of “House of Lies,” which is filming now and will air next year, Gaul will play one of Marty’s new team members. “They describe [my character] as an affable ex-jock who may come across a bit dim,” Gaul told us. He said his parents are psyched about the part, although he admits they’re not big TV people. “They love ‘Big Bang Theory.’” he said, laughing. “That’s about it.” House of Lies has also picked up New Hampshire native Eliza Coupe for a recurring role.
