A legislative committee is taking up a bill to regulate the use of drones by law-enforcement agencies in Maine. The Judiciary Committee held a hearing Tuesday on the bill sponsored by Senator John Patrick of Rumford, a Democrat. Patrick’s bill regulates police agencies’ acquisition and operation of unmanned aerial vehicles. It would require a warrant in most cases before drones are used for surveillance. Patrick told the committee that Big Brother is no longer the stuff of science fiction.
