AFTER A HEAD INJURY

State requirements for middle and high school athletes:

■ Immediate removal from practice or competition

■ Coach’s notification to parent

■ If a concussion is diagnosed, a reentry plan for a gradual return to sports and classes, with a timeline

■ Student must be free of symptoms and cleared medically before rejoining a sports team
