Smart growth proposals along Route 9
This story is from BostonGlobe.com, the only place for complete digital access to the Globe.
Ideas to be presented at a forum Tuesday:
The Golden Triangle
The retail area along Route 9 from the Speen Street interchange in Natick to Route 30 in Framingham, including Shoppers World and Natick Mall:
■ Locate buildings closer to the street, with parking moved to the rear.
■ Improve access for pedestrians and bicyclists.
■ Possible “air rights” buildings across Route 9.
Framingham Centre
The area encompassing the historic town center on Route 9 near Framingham State University:
■ Reorganize parking and access roads to create a shopping village.
■ Build an enclosed pedestrian walkway crossing above Route 9.
Fayville
The Route 9 and Oak Hill Road intersection and surrounding area in Southborough:
■ Place buildings closer to street corners to create a “village” feel.
■ Add landscaped medians to slow traffic and ease pedestrian crossings.
