SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two Springfield teenagers charged in connection with a fatal shooting have pleaded not guilty.

Eighteen-year-old Ashawnee Duke and 19-year-old Julien Holly were ordered held without bail at their arraignment on murder and other charges Friday.

Authorities think the victim, 18-year-old Keough Collins of Chicopee, was a friend of the suspects who was shot accidentally.

Police say Holly, Duke and Collins went to a Springfield public housing complex to rob a man. When the man fought back, Duke fired his gun, killing Collins.

Holly’s lawyer says his client waited in a car.

The intended robbery victim was struck in the leg by a bullet and survived.

The death was the city’s 12th homicide of the year.end of story marker
