Girls’ hockey teams to watch

(Listed with final 2011 records)

Duxbury (22-0-1): The two-time defending Division 2 state champions return junior goalie Rachel Myette and leading scorer Hannah Murphy.

Hingham (18-7-1): Junior forward Jane Freda fuels a potent attack for the Harbormen.

Braintree (16-6-2): A 3-2 overtime loss in the Division 1 semifinals serves as plenty of motivation for the persistent Wamps.

Walpole (16-3-3): Defense is the calling card for the Rebels, who advanced to the Division 2 quarterfinals last season.

Dedham (14-7): The Marauders will follow the lead of sophomore scorer Samantha Girard.

Girls’ hockey players to watch

Jane Freda , Hingham: The junior captain was the second-leading scorer (31 goals, 32 assists) in the state last season in propelling the Harbormen to the Division 1 state semifinals.

Samantha Girard , Dedham: As a freshman, the explosive forward tallied 30 goals and 25 assists.

Brooke Matherson , Walpole: A force on the blue line for the Rebels, the junior contributed 27 points last season.

Hannah Murphy , Duxbury: After netting the game-winning goals in each of the last two Division 2 state finals, and collecting a team-high 52 points last season, the senior forward shooting for a three-peat.

Rachel Myette , Duxbury: Her eight shutouts last season and a .928 save percentage were a major factor in the Green Dragons' state championship.
