Mass. approves of Lahey, Northeast affiliation
BOSTON—Massachusetts has approved an affiliation agreement between the Lahey Clinic and Northeast Health System that will create a $1.3 billion organization providing medical care throughout Essex and Middlesex counties and into southern New Hampshire.
The affiliation approved Wednesday by the state public health council will become effective May 1 under the new name Lahey Health System.
It includes Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Lahey Clinic North in Peabody and BayRidge psychiatric hospital in Lynn.
Howard Grant, the Lahey chief executive who will lead the new organization, tells The Salem News (http://bit.ly/GHtMn4) the move will strengthen both organizations and better serve patients.
It is too early to say how many jobs will be lost through the deal.
