FALMOUTH, Mass.—Authorities say a Cape Cod pilot has escaped with minor injuries after his single engine airplane crashed into a tree on a landing approach to the Falmouth Airpark.

Jeffrey Mandeville was the only person on the plane, which the FAA said is a Murphy Rebel he had built from a kit. Police said he was able to walk away from the Friday morning crash.

FAA spokesman Jim Peters tells The Boston Globe that Mandeville was flying in from Fitchburg when he said the engine quit.

The Cape Cod Times reports Mandeville lives at the airpark, which has homes and an airport. The plane was stuck in a tree about 15 feet off the ground, with one wing resting on the ground and one in the air. It went down near the Timothy Bourne Cartway.
