Treating type 2 diabetes in children is turning out to be more difficult than managing the condition in adults. A study published Sunday in the New England Journal of Medicine compares a variety of drug treatments combined with lifestyle changes, finding that nearly half of the 700 children who participated, including some from the Boston area, were unable to get their blood sugar levels under control over a four-year period.
