WOBURN, Mass.—The post office in Woburn has been renamed in honor of a veteran city police officer killed in the line of duty by a career criminal.
In a ceremony Sunday attended by local and state dignitaries, the post office was renamed for John "Jack" Maguire, who was gunned down in December 2010 while chasing as suspect in a department store jewelry counter robbery.
The 34-year veteran was a married father of two.
Dominic Cinelli, the career criminal who shot Maguire, was also shot and killed. He had been paroled despite a life sentence. The shooting led to an overhaul of the state Parole Board.![]()
