Taking a pass on the future
A high-profile group of business leaders had an intriguing - if not especially original - idea. They wanted to launch a job-training program at Roxbury Community College. They would pay students to participate in it, with the goal of hiring those who completed it successfully. But they got a strange reaction when they tried to pitch it in Roxbury: the college’s president, Terence Gomes, rejected it outright. No rhyme, no reason. the opportunity went to Bunker Hill Community College instead.
