CUNY's Mary Lu Bilek named UMass law school dean
DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Mary Lu Bilek, associate dean and professor at the City University of New York's law school, has been appointed dean of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth law school, the state's first public law school.
UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Jean MacCormack announced the appointment Thursday.
Bilek, a Harvard law graduate, joined CUNY (KYOO'-nee) in 1985. She has helped develop programs for legal education diversity, and in 2010-2011 headed the American Bar Association's committee on the subject.
Bilek succeeds Robert Ward. Ward said his departure last fall for health reasons was unrelated to an audit showing about $2,200 in personal spending on school credit cards for which he reimbursed UMass.
The former Southern New England School of Law donated itself to UMass in 2010 and has been recommended for provisional accreditation by an ABA committee.![]()
