Part of Bennington College’s second graduating class, Carolyn Crossett Rowland created a legacy as a photographer and philanthropist that reached from her alma mater to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She set up the college’s first darkroom and was an overseer at the MFA, where her photos are part of the museum’s collection. Mrs. Rowland also studied with two giants of photography, taking an early workshop offered by Ansel Adams and meeting with Alfred Stieglitz, who critiqued her work.
