Kicking off a program that will put 650 young Bostonians to work this summer, local business leaders and Mayor Thomas M. Menino congratulated participants Monday and urged them to make the most of their summer jobs. Red Sox slugger David Ortiz also came to bat for the event, held at Boston University’s Agannis Arena, delivering a message on timely performance. “This is the time for you guys to step up and do the right thing,” Ortiz said to the gathered participants.
