WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says Brunei’s head of state will meet with President Barack Obama next week.

Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah (HAH'-sahn-ahl bohl-KAY'-ah) will be at the White House on Tuesday to discuss Asia issues and preparations for the East Asia Summit and U.S.-ASEAN Summit in October.

Obama has previously attended those summits. This year, it’s taking place in Brunei’s capital. The tiny, oil-rich nation sits on Borneo island, bordered by Malaysia.

The two leaders will also discuss ways to move forward on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a region-wide free trade pact that Washington is pushing.

The White House says the sultan’s visit reflects Obama’s strategic focus on Asia.end of story marker
