While the Registry of Deeds has met or exceeded its revenue projections in each fiscal year since I have been elected, the county has not been able to generate any sustainable revenue outside of the Registry of Deeds and has reduced the Registry’s staff by 30%.
Through the first seven months of 2012, we saw a 34% increase in the number of mortgages coming across our counters and a 19% increase in the number of deeds as compared to the same period in 2011.
In light of the dramatic reduction in trained, experienced staff, I am particularly proud of our commitment and ability to meet the growing demands of homeowners, consumers, and real estate professionals who rely upon the Registry to protect the integrity of title to every piece of real estate in Plymouth County and to provide prompt, accurate information for the examination of titles for sales, refinances, and related transactions.
